The streets of Bandung will now be more lively and passionate. The city’s government, in cooperation with a big Indonesian company through its CSR programs, will provide free bus tour services for visitors to Bandung. Anyone visiting the city will be invited to welcome the presence of the bus service, christened as Bandros (Bandung Tour on Bus).
The name “Bandros” itself is unique for the city of Bandung. Bandros is actually a type of snack original of the region. It is a baked cake made of rice flour and grated coconut with a pinch of salt. It is an utterly delicious finger food, especially when accompanied by a cup of hot tea. The so-naming of the bus service only adds to the enjoyable characteristic known as typical to the city.
The titular “Bandros” is basically a vintage two-storeyed bus painted in flaming red, easily recognizable during the day and the night. It is modeled after the famous double-decker bus of the city of London with open deck on top. Designed for a maximum of 30 passengers, the bus is scheduled to depart from the Cikapundung street at the heart of the city. The bus will pass the Dago area, where the Sheraton Bandung Hotel & Towers is located. The service would especially cater for foreign and domestic tourists.
The double-decker bus is the first of its kind in Bandung. It was initially launched during the “Car Free Night” event on the New Year's Eve of 1 January 2014. Now Bandros can be enjoy with ticket IDR 10,000 per person. You may need to book it in advance to secure your seat since there's huge demand of Bandros, especially when it comes to school holiday or long weekend.
